Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat

A Roll Cloud

Though reports of strange phenomena in the sky go far back into the BC, it was not until Kenneth Arnold took off for a routine flight in his private plane on June 24th, 1947 in Washington and saw something he described as ??????flat like a pie pan?????? which ??????flew like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water?????? that the world came to embrace the term ‘Flying Saucer’.

Since then we have ‘seen’ alien craft in all shapes and sizes but they are all saucers to us. We have also seen the rise of a cultural phenomenon supported by film, TV and literature which has made us all wonder if we are not alone. Perhaps dissatisfaction with our own slowly declining planet has made us hope for something beyond it ?

To read more, here is an article on the BBC which today discusses the whole phenomenon. And this month’s Fortean Times has an issue devoted to UFOs.
