It’s difficult to comment until I’ve seen the Christmas episode in question, but from what I’ve seen so far, Russell T. Davies has a habit of taking real events and unsubtly weaving them, in a rather contrived way, into his stories. Whilst SF does work as a kind of metaphor for the “real” world we live in, I get the feeling that RTD??????s SF stories don??????t contain metaphors so much as “Cut and Pasted” episodes from true life. He constructs situations and characters in which the RTD viewpoint can be seen to take the moral high ground. Kind of patronising really, since it implies that he considers to rest of us a little too dense and unimaginative to work this out for ourselves.
